Law Enforcement Torch Run Kickoff

At NEP Services, we’re always excited when our clients are involved with their local communities. We recently had the opportunity to see it firsthand as attendees of the kickoff for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC).

The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is an event in which law enforcement officers carry the Flame of Hope across nearly 900 miles before ending at the Summer Games to raise awareness and money for the Special Olympics. Of 3,500 officers participating in Southern California, we are proud of more than forty client associations that will help carry the torch through four legs spanning from San Diego to San Luis Obispo.

At the kickoff, speakers emphasized the importance of the relationship between law enforcement officers and the Special Olympics Southern California as part of the “revolution of inclusion.” Officers spoke about being inspired by the athletes who overcome obstacles and push themselves beyond what they thought they could do, as well as their looks of pure joy during the Summer Games. Athlete Jordan Wall shared her story about becoming involved with the Special Olympics and competing in swimming, bowling and tennis.

For the past 37 years, the LETR has been the single largest grassroots fundraising and awareness effort for the Special Olympics and people like Jordan. Last year, the national LETR raised $60 million for athletes around the world, with $1.3 million being raised solely in Southern California.
